The Great Dan Patch
Indeed the film is riddled with inaccuracies however, the restoration of this film is incredible!
Another bit of magic from the video cellar!

Well, they got the part about him being a horse right....
Oh dear. It's easier to cite the accuracies than the inaccuracies. Dan Patch was a pacer (not a trotter) who never wore a hobble in his life; the gait was natural to him. He did set the record at 1:55 and was born and raised in Indiana. He was owned by a Mr. Savage later in his career and did travel the country to "race the clock." THAT'S IT. Nothing else in this entire movie was true to fact; not the chemist son of a racehorse breeder, not the schoolmarm, not the divorce.....it's a real shame; the horse's real life was actually pretty interesting and would have made for an interesting movie.

Tune: Ol' Mix Team
Ol’ mix team is what I drive,
Mare and a mule, bot’ half alive.
Wherever I go, whatever I do,
Mix team’s got me feelin’ blue.
Come on mule. Come on mare.
We can’t set in an easy chair.
Hear me “Gee”, Here me “Haw”,
Wanna eat? Gotta work, an’ das da law.
Mix team. Mix team.
Don’t stride alike, Don’t pull together,
Hate each other, da load and the weather.
O Lord, when I’m getting yok’ up forever,
Don’t put me in, Don’t put me in,
O, don’t put me in no mix team.

Especially nice for the horse lover. The acting is wonderful and the movie is timeless. I highly recommend for the whole family.
